The Conrad Chronicles: Rebirth is now in print!

The fourth Conrad book, Rebirth, is now available for sale as a trade paperback through Lulu.com . I set it at a 10% discount, and Lulu usually has a 10% to 15% off coupon, so it is cheaper to buy it directly from Lulu than any other place. If you prefer shopping elsewhere, within the next 4 to 6 weeks, it will be available for order through book stores and on Amazon. I will let you know when that happens.

Meanwhile, enjoy a glance at the cover and the teaser for this novel.

Lucy Gloria Vasilis Lucas struggles to accept her new life. She no longer is seen as the daughter of Ambassador Arsilin Lucas, the child who witnessed her mother's murder, but is now valued as the daughter of Gloria of the House of Vasilis, a Conrad of the Light, and the Chosen One who is destined to defeat Xavier of the House of Baldemar. At the age of eighteen, Lucy has gone from living at Willow Manor on Earth to living aboard the space ship, the Galactic Falcon. Her life has gone from one of surviving the brutality of the adults around her to being presented with a universe full of options. The magnitude of these sudden changes has sent Lucy's mind into shock.

As Lucy adjusts to space living, and slowly accepts she is alive and not delusional, she finds herself trying to accept the concept of being a Conrad, a human able to control energy. In addition, she must get to know her Uncle Zeplan, an uncle she never knew existed until the day he rescued her off of Earth.

What's in your water?

This morning I read an article that had a link to a website that will tell you what contaminants your local water tested positive for and what you can do about it. The site does state that  most municipalities meet the legal standards, but that the legal standards doesn't always mean it is safe to drink. So if you have time, check out the EWG website and put in your zip code and see what is in your water.

The Busy Season . . .New Conrad Chronicle Coming Soon!

These past months have been very busy ones for me for several reasons, one of them that I have been at work writing.  With this I have great news. The Conrad Chronicles: Rebirth will be for sale by the end of this month (October). Just a few minutes ago I finished uploading the manuscript to my printer and order the proof copy. If the proof looks good (which I hope it will as this is the 8th time I've done this), I will hit the distribute button and Rebirth will be available as a paperback.

Meanwhile, I will finish working on the final edit of the 5th Conrad novel Regrets, which may follow this one in a few months, probably early 2020. At this time I'm also writing the 8th book in  the Conrad series, and am about 4/5ths done with that first draft.

Happy reading.

Last Day of July!

Well, if I blog today I will just make my quota of at least two blogs a month. So here it goes.

My writing has dropped to managing to pen out two to three scenes of book 8 of The Conrad Chronicles. I should be formatting book 4 and editing book 5 too, but other projects have taken over.

The big task has been emptying the spare room that has been used for a combination of arts and crafts, extra furniture, and linens. That room needs to be converted to a bedroom (more to come on that later), so a great task of juggling has been occurring (This is one reason that the wall needed to be added to the living.

Thanks to Craiglist I managed to score a great shelving cabinet unit. As a result all the dolls were moved to live inside it, while the stuffed animals that had been in the spare room migrated into the closet in my office where the dolls had been. Of course, this meant everyone need a bath, and their clothes needed washing too.

Now that the washing and shuffling of dolls and stuffies has transpired, the framed pictures and tubs of crafts are being sorted and relocated. A few items are not being given a home in a new tub, and those are going in the box for the yard sale we will have this Saturday.

So, as you can see, I've been very busy, the yard has been neglected and my writing only finds its way to paper when I flee the house and head to the coffee shop so I can't see any of the projects.

Two Months!

Well, I guess it has been more than two months since I have blogged. So much for my goal of at least twice a month. May and June just got away from me, consumed by both planned and unexpected events.

The end of April marked another birthday for me, and for it I took a day train ride to Mt. Hood to see the pear blossoms. While the train ride was nice and enjoyable, I didn't see as many tree blossoms as I wanted.

Heather Hobson Lewis-April 2019

May got devoured by a night class and my dog Fern getting sick, and then injured a week after she got well. She's fine now, except her weak leg acts up now and then causing her to whine and limp.

June exploded with a construction disaster, resulting in the hired worker being fired and Tom and I taking the entire month to undo the damage done. I'm glad to report that we are done now, and the mistakes the fired worker made have either been redone or hidden with molding. The whole experience was very disappointing, and makes me think of the old quote, "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

Needless to say, my writing ended up moving like a snail these past months, but I am slowly writing the first draft of book 8 of The Conrad Chronicles, though what I really need to do is finish formatting book 4 and editing book 5.

Happy Readings!

Spring 2019 Writing Update and Where to Purchase My Books

For all those who are interested in my writing, and not the other topics I pen about here, I thought I would give you an update.

Currently I am formatting book 4 in The Conrad Chronicles, editing book 5, and writing the first draft of book 8. Of the three tasks, I prefer the writing of the first draft, followed by the editing. Formatting, which means fighting headers and footers so they end up in the right place, is always a real chore.

Since it has been a while, and the information is in a blog that is at least a year old, I'm going to post links to my novels here.

Backyard Archaeology-The Winter Finds

I really thought my backyard archaeology wouldn't result in any significant finds until the Spring. But a few days in December, January, and February, I spent time in my yard pulling weeds and trimming trees and bushes. After three years I truly thought I had found most of what was in the yard to find. I was wrong. This winter I found more objects than during the Fall. I'm starting to wonder if my yard possess a vortex to another dimension that sends objects through to this realm. That, or my yard is producing items as if it were a 3-D printer.

This winter yielded a baseball, nice bread knife, marble, screw driver, ink pen with ink still inside, blue ball, glue gun stick, spade, metal butterfly, swimming goggles, a toy spaceship, metal stacks and wire, and a few other random items.

Snow!

My area finally got a little snow this February. We had a day of the white cool fluff, then it melted. We then had another day of powder, and it melted. Finally we got three solid days of snow, and the dogs had fun playing in it. From the looks of the blue sky out my office window this first day of March, I think that small amount of snow is it for my area for this year and that Spring is near.

Fern out playing in the snow.

Just so you don't worry about Fern and Boomer, they have a dog door and can come in from the snow at any time they want to.

Boomer enjoying the snow.

The Snow Pumpkins
And yes, alas, the Halloween pumpkins were still on the deck when it snowed.

Pondering Blog and Recon Squadron

For the past several days, I have been feeling the urge to blog, but couldn't think of what to actually blog about. After writing about the one year anniversary of Konrad Reichenberger being missing, I just couldn't think of anything worthy to say. Updating where I am with my writing also made no sense as I am just typing and editing novels right now.

Over the last couple of years I started taking photos of beloved items around my home with the intention of archiving the photos with information on the possession, but that doesn't feel like a good topic for this particular blog.

Then the two year anniversary of Richard Hatch's passing arrived. I considered writing about that as a friend of mine did on her Facebook Battlestar Galactica page, but that didn't motivate me to come here and blog either.

Last night I had a dream where I was a character I had created years ago. This character I used in the fandom group I was a member of in the late 1980's through the 1990's. In fact for most of the 1990's I ran the group and was in charge of collecting the artwork and stories as well as cutting and pasting and photocopying the four time a year zine.

When I woke up, I realized my brain had mushed together Richard Hatch's death anniversary with the desire to archive information and my friend's complaint that people are too lazy to scan in old photos taken before digital cameras. Now I have something worthy to blog about.

Yahrens ago, I flew in Recon Squadron, a subchapter of Battlestar One International, under the name Captain Crystalrose. Back in those yahrens, at least when I started off, the internet really didn't exist. Putting together a zine meant people mailing stories and artwork through the post office, then cutting and pasting, and sometimes retyping (in WordStar) to create a page that one then photocopy (at a photocopy center). Then a giant stapler was used to combine the pages into a booklet form, which was stuffed in a handwritten envelope and mailed through the post office to the members.

One of the great challenges was always finding members. Given my club was so small that we couldn't afford any advertising in magazines like Starlog, the membership of Recon only grew through word of mouth in the early years. Later, when AOL had chat rooms, I belonged to a Battlestar Galactica chat room and that helped me find a few new members.

Though once the internet became widespread and information could be searched out easily and stories could be posted online, there was no really purpose for creating zines anymore.  In the Winter of 2000 I officially shut down Recon Squadron. Battlestar One International  had folded years earlier.

Now you have the backstory to go with the following. This morning I scanned in the original artwork I used in the Recon zines. Most of the artwork I used I created myself, but over the years I had members more artfully skilled than me that provided great cover art. Here are a few of the many pieces for your enjoyment.

One Year Later Konrad Charles Reichenberger is still a Missing Person!

A full year has now passed since Konrad Charles Reichenberger went missing on January 13, 2018 after he was last seen.

As a reminder Konrad was last seen in Alturas, California in the California Pines Hill Area.

Konrad is 6'2" tall, weighed 200 lbs when he disappeared, and is now 46 years old. He has tattoos on his right arm, brown hair that he usually has worn very short to almost shaved off, and usually has facial hair.

Please remember that Modoc County is a rural area. It is one of the poorer counties in California, and is filled with a lot of wilderness. In the area he disappeared from there has been illegal logging, as well as drug labs hidden in the forested areas. None of us are sure what has happened to Konrad other than he was last seen at his cabin home on January 13, 2018 and that he loved his dogs so much he would never have just left them without a solid reason or against his will. When he disappeared there was several feet of snow on the ground.

His family and friends really want to find him or at least find out what happened.

If you have any information on his disappearance please contact the Modoc County Sheriff's department at 530-233-4416.

If you can help spread the word he is still missing, that would be appreciated also.
